Muir Valley

Muir Valley is a non-profit nature preserve founded in 2004 by Rick and Liz Weber, now operated by the Muir Valley non-profit organization. Located in the heart of the Red River Gorge, it has become one of the most popular climbing destinations in the region. Spanning 360 acres, Muir Valley features over 400 routes ranging from beginner-friendly climbs to challenging overhangs. The area is meticulously maintained and offers thoughtful amenities including restrooms, well-marked trails, and convenient parking, making it a welcoming and accessible experience for climbers of all levels.

Directions & Parking

Muir Valley is located at the end of Fincastle Road, where you’ll find a large gravel parking lot. While the road is gravel, it is generally accessible for most vehicles.

Parking is $15 per vehicle per day, or you can purchase an annual pass for $150. There is a kiosk on site where you can pay upon arrival. If no attendant is present, parking operates on an honor system and payment can be made with cash or card on site. Follow the instructions at the kiosk.

Waivers & Access Considerations

Muir Valley requires waivers for all those visiting the area, even if you are just hiking. You can fill these out on their website.

Muir Valley is equipped with flushing toilets in the parking area and pit toilets throughout the valley — please use these when possible to help keep the area clean.

Dogs and hammocks are NOT allowed in Muir Valley.
